Treme

Have you watched the new HBO series set in New Orleans after Katrina? It's called Treme after a neighborhood there. The focus is on musicians as they try to resume their lives. The show was created by David Simon, known for The Corner & The Wire.

A few personal observations: Everything was brown for a long time - not much green. The streets were not clear in many areas and there was NO POWER for much of Orleans Parish.

Warning: this is HBO so there is gratuitous bad language & nudity. The first episode must have set some sort of record for usage of a certain four-letter word.

The theme song by John Boutte is very catchy.

Meet Molly the Pony...

I heard about this story via email & wondered if it was true,...well, it is!!!

Molly was abandoned by her owners as they fled Hurricane Katrina & then was severely injured in a pit bull attack after the storm. She lost her leg but the vets at
LSU were able to save her & now she walks on a prosthetic leg. Amazing! Here is her Myspace page. LSU Press has published a new children's book about her - I will be buying several copies for the grandkids!

Available here.
