House of Cards Has Been Driving Me Crazy...

...for a year.

If you've ever watched HOC, you know that the intro/credits at the beginning of the show are timelapse sequences of Washington,  DC.  Traffic, buildings, monuments, etc. are
shown. I have been very curious about the monument & building in the pic above & have spent time searching & searching for any clue to about them without any success.
UNTIL NOW!

I don't even know what I searched on, but I found a pic online of this monument & building.

The monument is the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial. It is located @ Pennsylvania Ave. & 7th St. NW. Here is a description of the monument. The GAR was founded after the Civil War as a fraternal organization for Union soldiers.

The building is located @ 633 Pennsylvania Ave. NW & houses the
National Council of Negro Women along with other groups, businesses, etc.
It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Here  is a quiz from the Washington Post on the opening sequence of HOC.

Here is an interview with Andrew Geraci, who directed the shoot for the HOC opening sequence.

You can find anything on the internet!

Mystery China...

Love this kitchen from the Feb./March 2013 issue (p. 68) of Traditional Home
I love the green and white chinoiserie-inspired china even more.
I searched unsuccessfully for the maker & pattern until I popped
over to Chinoiserie Chic and did a seach on "china". Bingo!
Of course the fabulous Beth Connally had it! The china is made by Isis Ceramics
an English company. The pattern is one of their signature designs. Mystery solved!

Chinoiserie Stamps...

The USPS recently released this beautiful forever stamp to celebrate the
Chinese Lunar New Year, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon.
The USPS has released commemorative Chinese New Year stamps yearly
beginning in 2008. The sheet is beautiful - the scan does not do it justice.
It really is pretty enough to frame.
Run to your local post office - they sell out quickly!

Gatlinburg in November!

Took a quick trip to Knoxville this weekend to watch the girls so
S1 & DIL1 could go to the UT-Arkansas game. We went to Gatlinburg
for the day on Saturday. It was a beautiful day & the town was packed.
We hiked, explored, went to the aquarium, ate @ Subway, got Dippin" Dots,
looked at Mimi's family cabin on Baskins Creek from her childhood,
saw a one-room schoolhouse (Little Greenbrier School) and had a great time!

The first three pics were taken at Metcalf Bottoms in the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park.  Two of the pics were taken from the wooden bridge across the river.
The bridge leads out of the park to Wears Valley.

The fourth pic was taken on the bridge outside the aquarium.
